KML vs. GML

With the increase support for KML within ESRI products, I have been wondering about the relevance of GML in the modern world and whether or not standards are more important or things that people actually use...I constantly wrestle with this issue myself, and SVG is just one great example of a standard that never really caught on. Interestingly there will be increased support for SVG in the near future...Anyway, with all the support for KML it is definitely becoming a de facto standard, whether we like it or not. Open source data streams will be important, but as always, seconday to what produces a nifty display for the user.

Hi Kirk,

I was reading your Blog and thought you might be interested in my work on Flash Macromedia and ArcIMS. I build a entire component library that makes from Macromedia Flash a Mapping sofware for clients. With this code you build a viewer in minutes.

I forgot to mention that it is free of use and you can find it under www.bliki.com/flashims
